My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever..

i've been listening to sermons from the pastor of this church called the meeting house. it's the "church for ppl who aren't into church" says the website. the pastor's name is bruxy cavey and i enjoy his preaching. during one sermon he was talking about moral maxims.. and how we should not use them as guides for life. why? because there tend to be contradictions with a lot of them. here are some examples he gave that i liked. (and if you were wondering what moral maxims are.. you'll know after you read these)

better be safe than sorry vs. nothing ventured nothing gained
absence makes the heart grow fonder vs. out of sight out of mind
never put off till tmrw what you can do today vs. don't cross that bridge till you come to it
you're never too old to learn vs. you can't teach an old dog knew tricks
the early bird gets the worm vs. good things come to those who wait
birds of a feather flock together vs. opposites attract

he was saying how these moral maxims sum up a particular experience. so they kind of only make sense in the context of where/when they are said. you can't just turn to one of them or you'll turn to the one that confirms what you want it to say.

and it's the same thing with the bible. we can't just pick verses and apply them to the situation we're in if it's out of context. i know i'm guilty of doing this a lot. i used to think it wasn't that big of a deal.. because as long as God uses His Word to speak to you, you're on the right track right? mm not exactly....

lesson learned (again): i need to read the bible more and know the contexts of what i'm reading.

i said i'd post these pics a little while ago.

dren, enoch, me @ joanie and dave's wedding
(about 3 weeks ago)

i realized we had taken a pic similar to this one years ago..

dren, enoch, me @ christmas potluck in 2nd year

i don't know why i look like i'm trying to elbow enoch in the neck lol. it's fun to compare pics from past to present! i don't think we've changed that much in terms of the way we look. i guess it was only hmm.. 3.5 years ago tho. we should take another pic 10 years from now :P

i got my official rejection letter from western a few days ago.

Dear Theresa:

Your application to the Compressed Time Frame Bachelor of Science in Nursing program was recently considered by the Admissions Committee. On behalf of the Committee, I write to inform you that you were not selected to fill one of the available positions in the program.

The Committee realizes that some qualified candidates will unfortunately, be denied admission because of the limited number of offers that can be made.

Thank you for your interest in Western and best wishes in your academic endeavours.

i wonder if they say that to all the ppl who were rejected.. or only to the ppl who are actually qualified but were denied admission because of the limited number of offers that can be made? i also wonder if i was even close to getting in.. but maybe they saw that i had already accepted york so they wanted to give the spot to someone else? i wonder i wonder...

but i guess there's no need to wonder. because i don't think i've ever been so apathetic about getting a rejection. or even happy? :P if western had accepted me.. i would've had to deal with fighting with my parents to let me go to york instead (they wanted me to stay at western, well mainly my dad) so only one door is open. and that's good.. because now, i pretty much know for sure that york is where God wants me to go!

i remember really enjoying the book of ecclesiastes when i read it last time. so i decided to read it again - this time with my new NASB bible!

I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has so worked that men should fear Him. Ecclesiastes 3:14 NASB

i love this verse. it's really awesome to know that whatever God does, there is nothing that can be added or taken away from it. He is in sovereign control of everything that lasts forever. and i want to be part of this.. doing things that will last forever. but if nothing can be added to it.. i guess that means that i am already a part of it? i hope i am?

it's also a joy to read the "there is a time for everything" passage again in chapter 3. i love that there is a time for everything :) and He has made everything appropriate in its time (3:11).

ps. i've discovered a new drink at starbucks! it's almost exactly like the black tea latte that we used to have but discontinued (which i was again, very sad about). it's a cold drink and it's just black tea, milk, and classic syrup! doesn't that just sound like milk tea you say? yes i suppose it does! but it's just soooo good. i think it's the classic that does it. makes it taste like hong kong style milk tea but not as heavy. mmmm.. love it :D

pps. it's funny how fast the weather can change. from blue skies and sunny to grey skies and threats of thunderstorm. our God is an awesome God :)

this post is for justin lau.

it's going to be about how to make my FAVOURITE drink at starbucks. i'd like to share with everyone how to order it when you're at starbucks. so please try it!

a little background on this drink: last summer there was a drink called the dulche de leche latte. but when summer ended.. they took it away. i was sad. then one of my co-workers told me about a combination of syrups that tastes very similar to dulche de leche. i am forever grateful to her.

simple name for it is - a white mocha and caramel latte.

in a TALL - ask for 2 pumps of white mocha and 1 pump of caramel
in a GRANDE - ask for 2 pumps of white mocha and 2 pumps of caramel
in a VENTI (rare but hey ya never know when you'll want one) - ask for 3 pumps of white mocha and 2 pumps of caramel

so for example, the proper way to order a grande would be: "can i please have a grande 2 pump white mocha 2 pump caramel latte?" and if you want nonfat or soy or lactaid.. then insert that after the syrups - can i please have a grande 2 pump white mocha 2 pump caramel nonfat latte?"

you can get it hot or iced. when you get it iced it's always good to ask the barista to put the syrups in AFTER the milk is poured. then the white mocha will not be stuck to the bottom of the cup. but you might think that asking for that is being too picky. it is.. but whatever!

you can get this drink as a latte (espresso and steamed milk or cold milk), coffee misto (half coffee, half steamed milk), americano misto (espresso, hot water, steamed milk), frappuccino, or iced coffee. i still have yet to try it as a frapuccino or iced coffee. but you bet i'm gonna!

so there you have it!

i'm a starbucks geek and i know it. but i love to share my joy and enthusiasm for what i love!

i don't know how to study anymore.

you'd think that only being off from school for one semester's not that long. but it feels like i haven't studied in aaaaages. and now that i have to.. i just can't really bring myself to it. maybe i just need to get out of the house.. away from my computer :P

i'm gonna talk about my parents now.

sometimes.. they bring me so much joy. other times they stress me out a lot. it's been really great how supportive they've been about me moving to toronto. but talking about the logistical stuff with my dad gets to me sometimes. it seems like it's been awhile since i've been able to sit down and have a nice dinner with my parents. they went grocery shopping today and brought back 12 lobsters and a bag of crablegs from the superstore (some sale going on apparently). my dad loves his seafood! i think that's where i get it from. i love when we just sit at the dinner table and crack away at crablegs :P i remember back in the day (and even now) when my bro, sis, and mom would have left the table and me and my dad would still be going at it. haha.. soooo yummy.

and my parents have been watching korean movies lately. during dinner they start pretending to speak korean. LOL! i love how silly they can be :)

we went to a wedding at niagara falls a couple weekends ago. my dad made us stop every 2 seconds to take a picture as we walked along the falls.. haha.

here they are.. holding hands! aww so kyoot :)

mom & me

my dad is flippin hilarious :P

i always said that i think i'd appreciate them a lot more if i went away for school. but days like today make me appreciate them now!

i have the best job!

after a week of not working at starbucks.. i start to miss it. and after going back.. i remember all the reasons why i love it there so much :)

- my managers and co-workers are awesome
- seeing regular customers and the fact that they know my name brings me joy
- there's nothing like a white mocha and caramel latte during the first break of an open shift :)
- samples galore!
- it's a positive and uplifting work atmosphere.. lots of encouragement all around!
- it's sooo much fun :P

the best thing about going back after a week of not working was hearing my manager tell me that some regular customers had asked about me while i was away. awww :) i'm gonna miss my store so much when i have to leave!

if i could earn a decent wage on a barista's salary for the rest of my life.. i just might do it haha.

not everyone can say that they look forward to a 9-5 shift on a saturday at their jobs :P
